Mysterious Concept Art Is in Mega Man Legacy Collection 2

Mega Man Legacy Collection 2 is out, and this time it’s an in-house Capcom project. Previously, both Mega Man Legacy Collection and the Disney Afternoon Collection were outsourced by Digital Eclipse. Digital Eclipse brought a ton of renown to these collections with extensive gallery modes, featuring hand-scanned concept art, game boxes and more. In an attempt to deliver on the same level, Capcom supplied tons of art of its own. But it also may have accidentally slipped in something a little extra. Or maybe it isn’t an accident? Who knows.

Protodude, owner of Mega Man site Rockman Corner, discovered the art in question, and it has since set the Mega Man fanbase ablaze. Is it a discarded piece of art from a canceled game, an unnamed leftover from the past, or a hint at something new? Nobody really knows for sure, but Protodude insists it isn’t from an older game.

In his review, he claims the art comes from Yuji Ishihara, who previously worked on Mega Man Legends , Battle Network, and Star Force . The art is buried in the Mega Man 8 section of the museum, despite Ishihara never working on that title. Protodude also noticed several design similarities to the Super Smash Bros. version of Mega Man, with details more in line with that than any previous Mega Man design. It also features Mega Man with an altered design based on what looks like a power-up, when in classic Mega Man games, only the color of his outfit changed.

Whatever this thing is, it sure has the people speculating about Mega Man all over again.
