YouTuber Adapts DOOM 2 using Diablo 2 Engine

One of the coolest things about DOOM ’s legacy is how much DOOM nerds love playing around with it. People have ported DOOM to bizarre devices, made years and years of custom maps and modifications, and even adapted the DOOM settings and characters into other genres and games. The latest example of that is YouYuber DolloM’s Doomiablo project.

Doomiablo sees the broad strokes of DOOM 2 adapted into the Diablo 2 engine. The tech demo on the channel demonstrates the player controlling Doomguy from a top-down perspective and using the mouse to shoot demons with Diablo -fied versions of the DOOM 2 arsenal. It’s more of a “isn’t this neat?” novelty kind of project, but DolloM wants to work on it until it’s actually fun to play.

DolloM plans to add melee combat to the mod and will be setting up more flexibility options within the mod. That means in theory players will be able to choose between playing a DOOM 2 adaptation, or taking Doomguy on a rampage through the world of Tristam instead. Both seem like viable options for having a good time.
