EB Games, which is basically GameStop, is trying something new, sort of. The company, which is owned by GameStop, is starting “Swap ‘n’ Play.” It is a service that lets customers essentially rent pre-owned games, one at a time, as long as they want. This of course comes at the cost of a monthly membership fee.
The point of origin for this new service is South Australia, where EB Games is going to run trials of the proposed service. The service will cost $19.95 AUD per month, and will entitle customers to one game at a time. Any pre-owned game is up for grabs, as long as it’s available in-store.
EB Games says the service is about as unlimited as it can get. There is no time limit and no limit to the number of times a subscriber can swap games within the space of a month. This comes at a time when similar digital services, such as Xbox Game Pass and EA Access, are doing well and competing with less well-received streaming services.
