Capcom Releasing a New Puzzle Fighter

Capcom Releasing a New Puzzle Fighter

Capcom’s all-time classic tile puzzler Puzzle Fighter is making a comeback. This time, it’s on mobile platforms. The entire Capcom Canon is joining the fray, in what was previously a Street Fighter and Darkstalker -centric environment.

This new Puzzle Fighter was announced just in time for playable demos at PAX West. It is going to rely heavily on character unlocks, as one would expect in a contemporary mobile game like this. As such, the roster is being expanded to include characters from all throughout Capcom history. Shown in promotional materials are characters like Ryu, Morrigan, Mega Man X, Jill Valentine, and Mike Haggar.

The new Puzzle Fighter will be soft-launching in certain regions soon, but won’t be seeing a full launch until late 2017. This is a mobile game for Android and iOS, so we can expect the full site of free-to-play features and drawbacks. The deep pool of characters suggest to me a gacha-style character unlocking system, likely with a healthy amount of level-grinding.
