Final Fantasy XIV Fans Raise Over $20,000 for Charity

Last week, members of the Final Fantasy XIV community banded together to raise money for relief efforts. This came after two hurricanes, Harvey and Irma, hit the United States. Using the Direct Relief platform, the “Lalafell Invasion for Hurricane Relief” event was a massive success. How big was it? Over $20,000 was raised!

During the 12-hour livestream event, Final Fantasy XIV players joined a designated server, all created Lalafells, and started fresh at level one. The event beganas all the players banded together to reach level 15 and get airship access. After that, the group marched across the game’s world shouting about hurricane awareness. An after party was then held, advertised as featuring fireworks, swimming, and conga lines. Events,  such as ones involving trivia, were also held during the event.

The initial goal was set for $1,000, which was quickly met shortly after things started. Three hours later, the secondary goal of $5,000 was also met. By the end of the event, the community raised $21,550. Yes, video games and the people who play them are awesome.
