Nintendo Brings Its IP to the Arcade Archives Series

Nintendo Brings Its IP to the Arcade Archives Series

Back in 2014, developer Hamster started the Arcade Archive series on the PlayStation 4. It is a means of bringing various high quality ports of arcade games to the platform from myriad publishers. Over time, the Arcade Archives series spread to other platforms and expanded to sub-series including the ACA Neo Geo series. During the Nintendo Direct on September 13, Nintendo announced a partnership with the brand to bring its own arcade library to the Nintendo Switch.

The series includes games that not only are significantly different from their NES counterparts, but also have been seldom seen since their original arcade releases. This includes games like Vs. Punch-Out!! And Vs. Clu Clu Land , the latter of which never even left Japan until now.

This is of course a separate venture from Nintendo’s own, in-house Virtual Console services, being part of the Arcade Archives brand. The first game released will be the original Mario Bros ., which is largely the same as its console versions but does have more complicated animations and music, making it a must-have for Nintendo history enthusiasts. That will release on September 27. Dates for the other games are to be determined.
