Bethesda Comments on Switch Version of DOOM

Bethesda Comments on Switch Version of DOOM

Nintendo and Bethesda shocked the gaming community last week by announcing both DOOM and Wolfenstein II are coming to the Nintendo Switch. The question on everyone’s minds, of course, is… how? While the Switch is an impressive piece of hardware, it’s still difficult to imagine recent, AAA titles running on it without serious compromises. Bethesda, however, says we have nothing to worry about.

Based on language provided by a Bethesda representative to US Gamer, Nintendo’s version of DOOM isn’t just a quick port job. While the statement says the obvious, that DOOM ’s visuals on Switch won’t be at parity with other versions, Bethesda also says that the game is custom-built for the Switch.

While that doesn’t really mean much without further details, Bethesda is likely waiting to say more until DOOM on Switch is closer to ship-ready. Early footage from the Nintendo Direct announcement looks great, but there’ no telling where that footage came from or what it’s running on. We’ll see, but while expecting too much is a bad idea, if this version is being handled by id Software, those folks are actual computer wizards so I wouldn’t be too concerned with anything disastrous happening. It is coming out later this year, so we’ll see how good it looks soon!
