Volition Sees Layoffs After Agents of Mayhem

Volition Sees Layoffs After Agents of Mayhem

According to a report from Jason Schreier on Kotaku, Volition has laid off more than 30 employees, including general manager Dan Cermak. This information comes from three sources. Of course, these sources are unnamed for their protection.

While video game publishers generally do not share sales data, it is not surprising that this news follows the developer’s recent release, Agents of Mayhem. It received a poor reception from critics and relative indifference from the gaming community after it launched.

These sources also suggest that Deep Silver, publisher of Volition’s games, was not happy with the sales for Agents of Mayhem . Reports elsewhere based on UK sales numbers suggest the game had a hard time, even with little competition the week of its launch. Even now, you don’t hear much about the game post-launch.

Agents of Mayhem appears to be another victim of the race to populate the hero shooter genre. Many gamers seemed confused that the game was only single player, despite being clearly inspired by a genre that largely benefits from online competition.
