Riot Games’ Co-Founders Stepping Back to Work on a New Game

It would seem that the creators of League of Legends are finally planning to take a step away from the giant they created. Don’t worry, that doesn’t mean anything negative for League of Legends ! It just means that Riot Games is going to go through some changes.

The two co-founders of the company, Brandon Beck and Marc Merrill, are transferring over corporate control of Riot Games to some of the other leaders. Riot Games CFO Dylan Jadeja, CTO Scott Gelb, and President Nicolo Laurent will be manning the helm. Meanwhile, Beck and Merrill want to focus on development again. The explosion of popularity that League of Legends enjoyed prevented the two creators from doing just that. They were thrust into management roles and now that their game (and company) are sitting pretty, they can get back to what they love.

A blog post seemingly co-written by Beck and Merrill states that they plan to “put the ‘S’ in Riot Games” again. We’re not sure at this time as to whether that means we’ll be seeing a brand new IP from Riot Games or not. It could be that the two co-founders intend to make some kind of League of Legends spin-off. For now, we’ll just have to keep our eyes focused on these two as they move into the next step in their careers.
