Gears of War 4 Runs at 60 FPS on Xbox One X

Gears of War 4 Runs at 60 FPS on Xbox One X

The Coalition, developer in charge of Gears of War , has officially laid out details on what the Xbox One X has in store for Gears of War 4 . There’s a list of goodies, but the clear standout is both the campaign and Horde mode will be able to run at 60 frames per second. The update will come to the game for free on November 4, 2017.

This is a pretty big deal, as these modes on Xbox One or Xbox One S both run at 30 frames per second. Xbox One X players will be able to choose between two modes with Gears of War 4 : Performance mode or Visuals mode. In the former, players will get a 60 fps target at 1080p. In Visuals, the 30 fps cap stays, but the resolution is bumped up to 3840×2160. It also comes with several visual adjustments, including higher quality textures, increased draw distance, and more complex lighting.

Regardless of the mode chosen, the multiplayer component of Gears of War 4 will maintain 60 frames per second. The resolution in this mode will target 4K but be adaptive, adjusting the resolution scaling on the fly to maintain that frame rate.
