Steam Bans Links to Patches That Restore Adult Content

Valve, the creators and owners behind the popular gaming platform Steam, have made some interesting moves over the years regarding censorship. Most recently, many games with sexual content have been censored when they are released on Steam. Many developers simply release a patch that players can unofficially add to their game files to enjoy the uncensored version of the game. This was generally hosted on the developers’ websites, with links in the game’s Steam community.

As it turns out, Valve will no longer allow developers to link to uncensored patches anywhere on Steam. This was revealed via a game called Galaxy Girls . Within the game’s discussion threads is one where a user mentions being unable to find install instructions. The developer of the game, Dharker Studio, stated that they were asked to remove any links or information about the uncensored patches from Steam. This information will have to be moved to their own website.

Steam hasn’t always been this stingy regarding nudity and sexual content. In a way, it makes sense, since making their platform all-ages friendly allows them to sell more.Yet, there are plenty of intensely violent games on Steam, so what’s wrong with a little nipple every once in a while? The censorship of the human body and natural processes is a little silly in this day and age. Especially in a case like this, where fans will still be able to download and install the uncensored patches; they just won’t find the information on how to do so on Steam.

What do you think about this latest censorship move by Valve?
