EA Bringing Subscription Services to More Platforms

EA Bringing Subscription Services to More Platforms

EA Access, EA’s own Xbox Game Pass-like service, has been Xbox-only since it launched. The company also has similar functionality built into its Origin platform on PC. But there may be further expansions to EA’s game download subscription structures in the near future.

During an earnings call, Andrew Wilson (CEO of the company) said that the services in question (EA Access and Origin Access) are doing well, and subscription numbers continue to climb. He then followed that up by saying shareholders should expect EA to bring this business model to more platforms in the future.

Wilson did not specify plans or platforms. He did however note an interesting fact, that makes sense considering EA games and their in-game business structures. He said that while the cost of subscriptions doesn’t necessarily make up for the “free” games, the in-game purchases that player are more likely to make up for the difference and then some.
