EA Reddit Comment Is the Most Downvoted of All Time

Reddit has a long history of drama and downvoting, and up until now the most downvoted comment in Reddit history had roughly 25,000 downvotes total. But now, thanks to all the microtransaction troubles in gaming and Star Wars Battlefront II ’s particularly egregious use of loot boxes, the record has been blown to smithereens by a rather tone-deaf EA Community post defending the locked hero characters.

The latest point of contention in the discussions about Battlefront II ’s content has been with hero unlocking costs. As of the games’ pre-launch EA Access demo and review copies, characters like Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker were set at 60,000 credits. Considering playing a match generally nets around 2-300 credits, that’s a ton of playtime to unlock a single character.

After tons of rage, an EA Community team member chimed in on a Reddit thread, saying that the purpose of these high costs was to make sure players felt a sense of accomplishment in unlocking them. Of course, the costs are tiered based on character popularity, and credits come in loot boxes. It doesn’t take much red straw and thumb tacks to figure this one out.

The comment has faced an onslaught of downvotes, and as of this writing has netted over 600,000. As a reminder, second place is only about 25,000 in the red. Woof.
