Star Wars: Battlefront II Sales Take a Hit on Launch

Star Wars: Battlefront II Sales Take a Hit on Launch

While accurate sales numbers in the US for video games are hard to come by right away, UK sales are always out in the open, at least for physical sales. While there are sometimes big differences (soccer games, etc), early UK sales can be a helpful tool for predictive purposes. After all the launch week drama for Star Wars: Battlefront II , we appear to see a noticeable effect on launch sales numbers.

For its launch period, Star Wars: Battlefront II has emerged in the second-place slot for the week’s UK sales, coming in behind Call of Duty: WWII in its third week on the market. Additionally, based on the numbers for the previous Battlefront title, this sequel is seeing a 50% drop in comparison out of the gate.

There are a lot of factors at play here, obviously Call of Duty is a massive bit of competition, regardless of how long it has been out. Physical sales are also losing ground to digital sales as time passes, especially since 2015, and these sales numbers can’t take digital sales into account. And of course, all the uproar over the game’s poorly-implemented microtransations will likely be pointed to as the primary cause. Of course, as the industry is often secretive to the point of its own detriment, we will be waiting for a long time for more substantial analysis.
