Detective Pikachu dropped in Japan in 2016, and fans curious about this bizarre game were left wanting more. A movie made by North American studio Legendary Pictures was announced shortly thereafter, making the game’s non-presence over here even more odd. Now, not long after Ryan Reynolds was recently casted as the movie’s lead, Pokemon fansite Serebii discovered a new PEGI rating for Detective Pikachu , meaning that we may yet see this thing in English.
A PEGI rating means that Detective Pikachu has been rated for release in Europe, as PEGI is the sort of ESRB equivalent over there. It received a rating of 3 (spoilers: kid-friendly), and has a placeholder release date of 2020. It also has a little official blurb on the game, saying that players will “investigate evidence, question possible witnesses and solve a curious mystery.”
Obviously nothing has been confirmed officially yet, but PEGI ratings generally come pretty early, with confirmation soon to follow. It’s likely the timing along with movie news is deliberate, so we wouldn’t be surprised to see the game announcement come alongside a trailer or more official movie materials.
