Dungeons & Dragons Film Has a Release Date

Dungeons & Dragons Film Has a Release Date

The history of Dungeons & Dragons, within the context of film and television, has been incredibly varied. Most recently, it would seem that a release date for the newest version of the universe is on the horizon. Paramount announced today that their take on Dungeons & Dragons will be releasing on October 1, 2021. That’s quite a specific date for something so far off.

The storied history of this particular Dungeons & Dragons project began in 2015. There was a massive legal battle to decide who had the film rights to the universe. Wizards of the Coast and Warner Bros. won. After that, they seemed to go on to hire Rob Letterman as the director for the project and possibly Ansel Elgort as one of the leads. Silence fell over the project until October 2017, when Hasbro teamed up with Paramount. Seeing as how Paramount is the one now making the announcement, it would seem the Dungeons & Dragons rights might have been shifted hands once again.

It’s hard to be confident about the Dungeons & Dragons film after all the behind-the-scenes conflict that seems to be taking place. Paramount seems quite sure that they’re going to release a final product though, what with their specific release date of October 1, 2021. Here’s hoping we hear more about it as time goes on and they don’t revert back to radio silence.
