Online Free Roam Confirmed for Need for Speed: Payback

Need for Speed: Payback attempted to change the longtime series’ formula by introducing an open world structure to all the speed-needing car shenanigans. When Payback launched, many fans seemed putt off by the lack of a multiplayer presence in said open world environment. In 2018, it seems like that problem is being rectified.

Via the game’s official Twitter account, developer Ghost Games announced that “Online Free Roam” will be coming to Need for Speed: Payback . No further details were provided, but the Tweet did wish everyone a Happy New Year, which was very nice.

This is reportedly a free addition, but one that is still in active development. In the meantime, players have been using the game’s lobbies to sort of brute force multiplayer free roaming, although obviously the options in the context are limited.

Need for Speed Payback came out in November 2017 to lukewarm reviews. Perhaps this new feature will bring fans of the series back for another try.
