Crowdfunded Switch Dock Has Issues

Crowdfunded Switch Dock Has Issues

After several delays, a third-party switch dock that was crowdfunded to the tune of over $100,000 has finally released to backers. Unfortunately, the launch seems to be a disaster. The device was pitched as a portable Switch dock, meant to make TV play with the Switch even easier than it already is. Not only does the dock, produced by a company named SFans, cut down the size, it also cuts the price of a dock down to $59.

The crowdfunding campaign, run through IndieGoGo in June 2017, ended up bringing in more than $120,000. SFans originally stated the docks would ship at the end of that month, but several delays kicked it into 2018. The company cited issues like improved designs following competitors entering the market as reasons for the delay.

The docks started arriving to backers this month, and many of them have reported that not only does the device often arrive broken in some way, many of the advertised features from the IndieGoGo pitch aren’t even present. The device doesn’t resemble images provided by SFans either, even after the apparent redesign.

Luckily, other companies such as Nyko have brought similar products to market, so while one must always temper their expectations with crowdfunding projects, portable Switch dock alternatives are out there.
