Donnie Yen, a martial arts actor most known for his roles in IP Man and Rogue One, tweeted out that Sleeping Dogs, a film based on Square Enix and United Front’s open world action game of the same name, is still in the works. Yen, via Instagram, posted a shot of what appears to be taken from the movie, set side-by-side with an image of Wei Shen, the original game’s protagonist. Yen says that “sometimes great things take a bit of time,” and “Sleeping Dogs is in motion, you guys ready for this?”
The Sleeping Dogs movie was reported on early last year, unfortunately after the closure of United Front. The movie was reported to be produced by Original Film and DJ2 Entertainment. DJ2 has a history of optioning video game licenses for film, and recently collaborated with Europacorp to develop TV content based on indie shooter Ruiner. The company is also involved with a live-action Sonic the Hedgehog project.
