NVIDIA Working to Keep Up with Graphics Card Demand

NVIDIA Working to Keep Up with Graphics Card Demand

NVIDIA, during an earnings call, had to address the continuing supply problems affecting graphics cards. This problem, of course, is caused by an explosive demand for high-power GPUs thanks to cryptocurrency mining. NVIDIA has seen a lot of growth as a result, but remains committed to its primary consumer base and is working to address the problem as much as it can amid component shortages.

For the period ending on Jan 28, 2018, NVIDIA reported $2.91 billion in revenue. A whopping $2.46 billion was from GPU sales alone, an increase of 33 percent. NVIDIA stated that was due to new games, holiday demand, café upgrades, esports, and of course cryptocurrency mining. The company stated that while the latter factor contributed more than the previous quarter, the increase is difficult to quantify.

Despite the growth in that area, NVIDIA insisted that its primary focus is still squarely on its “core market.” NVIDIA expects the cryptocurrency market to remain in a volatile state, and that there is no intent to rely on that demographic. In speaking to the demand causing supply shortages and price increases, NVIDIA insists that it is working hard to address the supply concerns, and is continuing talk with retailers in an attempt to manage pricing.
