Unless you’ve been living under a rock for a while, you’re probably well aware of Assassin’s Creed: Origins ‘ standalone Discovery Tour that has been released today. As it turns out, it’s had some major changes made to it that are causing quite a stir. Many of the main statues within the game have been censored rather comically with seashells. It would appear that most of the statues that you can get up close and personal with have seashells over the nipples for women and over the genitals for both genders.
Assassin’s Creed: Origins ‘ Discovery Tour was already available for everyone who owned the game. It was just today that it released separately for those who wish to enjoy its educational features. Essentially, you can wander through the game’s Ptolemaic Egypt and learn all about the locations, history, and people there. Redditors and the rest of the Internet are concluding that this censorship of Discovery Tour must have been to achieve a rating of T for Teen from the ESRB.
Ubisoft has not made any official statements on this censorship at the time of this writing. But it would appear that it has only occurred in the standalone Discovery Tour. Assassin’s Creed: Origins itself doesn’t seem to have suffered the same fate. One bizarre twist, however, is that paintings and murals around the city don’t seem to have been censored. And statues that are not in prominent locations have also not been censored. We’ll have to wait and see if Ubisoft has anything to say for themselves on this.
