Sega Accidentally Gave Yakuza 6 Away for Free

Yesterday, a demo for Yakuza 6: The Song of Life dropped on the PlayStation Network ahead of its April 17, 2018 release in North America. Less than a day later, the demo has been taken down due to a glaring issue that let some players gain access to the entire game.

The goal for the demo, which clocked in at around 36 GB, was to let players continue on with their save after purchasing the full game. However, some players discovered that they could continue to play the game beyond the intended chapter limit, and even started to earn trophies.

After word of the issue began to spread, Sega moved to quickly get the demo removed and released a statement-slash-apology on Twitter. Sega said that the company is as “upset as you are,” and is looking into what caused the issue. On a later Reddit post from a Sega representative, it was said that Sony is working with the publisher to make sure fans won’t be “punished for downloading a demo.” Sega intends to make sure save data will remain intact, and anyone who downloaded the demo won’t have any problems on launch day.
