Battlefield 2018 Reportedly Set in World War II

EA has confirmed that the 2018 Battlefield game will be making an appearance at the publisher’s E3-adjacent event, EA Play, this summer. While earlier rumors suggested the next game will be a Vietnam-centered Bad Company sequel, GamesBeat is all but confirming the next game is actually a World War II venture titled Battlefield V .

Previously referred to as Battlefield 2 internally at EA, the official title appears to have been updated to Battlefield V , likely to avoid confusion as a Battlefield 2 already exists. This will be a return to the World War II after many years away for the series, the last being Battlefield 1943 in 2009.

Going back to the past after years of modern and future-themed shooters is a running and successful theme from the past few years. Both Battlefield 1 and Call of Duty: WWII have been massive successes, and both are following lower points for their respective series. While the timing may seem odd due to Call of Duty doing it “first,” these plans have likely been in place since the World War 1 game took off at the speed it did.
