Something pretty weird happened this morning, that led us all to believe Blizzard is about to drop its action RPG, Diablo III , on the Nintendo Switch. Everyone freaked out immediately of course, as Blizzard hasn’t been on a Nintendo platform in ages. And of course, Blizzard is playing coy about the whole thing after intentionally stoking some flames.
Here’s what happened: Blizzard tweeted out a brief video, captioned with “Sweet dreams.” In the video, a big ol’ Diablo night light is plugged into a wall outlet, and a disembodied hand flips it on and off. The intent here is pretty obvious. It’s a Diablo light switch.
So of course this Tweet blew up and the headlines started pouring out. Blizzard then responded with the usual faux-innocence one would expect from someone trying to maintain a marketing timeline. In a statement to Polygon, a Blizzard rep said “we’re not that clever,” and that the Tweet was simply a “fun community engagement piece.”
Make of it what you will, but it seems like a pretty deliberate move. We’ll see what happens soon enough.
