Meeting Between ESA and Trump Administration Confirmed

Meeting Between ESA and Trump Administration Confirmed

Last week, Donald Trump and his administration held a publicly-aired meeting with lawmakers about gun violence, following the recent shooting at a high school in Parkland, Florida. The meeting went nowhere fast, which was attributed to bizarre and conflicting statements from Trump during the meeting. In a later press briefing, press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders attempted to deflect by announcing a meeting with video game industry figures, which opened a new can of worms.

Many in the industry, including the ESA, the organization one would most immediately expect to attend such a meeting, expressed total surprise at this announcement, having not heard anything from the White House at all. Depending on where you hang out on the Internet, this led to all manner of jokes, anger, and/or confusion.

Now, a meeting actually has been announced. The ESA, or Entertainment Software Association, has confirmed that a meeting with the Trump administration has now been scheduled, and it will be held on March 8. The ESA said it is attending the meeting, and intends to have a “fact-based conversation” about the ESRB and various tools provided by the self-regulated industry to provide information to parents about games.
