Twitch Lays Off “Several” Employees Amid Internal Changes

Twitch Lays Off “Several” Employees Amid Internal Changes

A report by Polygon alleges that Amazon-owned, streaming giant Twitch has been hit with layoffs as the company has made adjustments to its various teams. While Twitch has not released the actual number of layoffs, internal sources have told Polygon the number is “several,” but likely not higher than 30. Twitch did acknowledge internal changes in a statement, saying that while the company expect to grow by roughly 30%, and has seen a lot of success in 2017, some teams have been “adjusted” due to changing priorities.

Twitch did not specify what those changes are, nor what the new priorities are. Polygon also noted that Twitch also doesn’t publish how many employees it has – sources have suggested from 400 to upwards of 1,500.

As the story has continued to develop, many high-profile people at Twitch have confirmed leaving the company. Word has spread that allegedly many of the firings happened via a remote Google Hangouts call.
