Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp Adds “Loot Boxes”

Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp Adds “Loot Boxes”

Nintendo’s popular Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp has received an update that includes something curiously similar to loot boxes. The new items, Fortune Cookies, were announced via the Animal Crossing Twitter, and they are up for grabs with Leaf Tickets or, in some cases, Bells.

These Fortune Cookies are available at the Market Place and contain a random item within. Some times they will award clothing, other times furniture. There are some of them available with the in-game currency, Bells. But the system seems mostly targeted towards purchases with Leaf Tickets, Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp ‘s premium currency. You can get Leaf Tickets by completing in-game objectives, but they’re mostly purchased with real money.

Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp does list what items (and their chances of winning) are in each Fortune Cookie. However, the mob mentality toward loot boxes is very negative at the moment. It remains to be seen how popular these Fortune Cookies will become, or whether they’ll even stay. If enough negative feedback is given, Nintendo may even rethink their inclusion of them in Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp .
