One of the bigger, longer stories in games this year has been the ongoing tale of Quantic Dream, the French media, and several reports of poor working conditions within the company. Quantic Dream has repeatedly denied the accusations amid public outcry and internal investigations, and now the company is taking things a step further. Reporters at Kotaku learned that Quantic Dream is suing two of the media outlets involved.
This happened in two parts. Initially, while promoting his book in France, Jason Schrier learned that writer William Audureau, once of the original reporters on the Quantic Dream story, was “tied up in court” and unavailable for a meeting. Around the same time, another Kotaku reporter, Cecilia D’Anastasio, learned straight from David Cage himself that “we’re suing their journalists” before Sony PR shut the interview down.
Now, representatives for French outlets Le Mode and Mediapart will both have to defend their reporting in court, essentially needing to legally prove the reporting was in good faith. The lawsuits are in the paperwork stage at the moment, and the first hearing will be held in June 2018.
