21st Century Fox is teaming up with Chooseco, the publisher of Choose Your Own Adventure books, to craft a full length film that audiences will interact with. The film will be a direct adaptation of one of the popular choice-heavy books from the 80's and 90's, but we have no idea which one. There has also been no announcement as to who will direct or star in the film.
What we do know is that 21st Century Fox's Choose Your Own Adventure film will be using an app to allow audiences to choose outcomes in the film. Each choice will pop up in the app (CtrlMovie) much like a quick-time event would in a video game. Audience members will select which they would choose, and the most popular one will be played out on the big screen. We do not yet know what would happen if there is a tie.
CtrlMovie has already been tested to some success with a film called Late Shift. There were seven different endings available in that film,. While that will give you a good proof of concept, it should be a much different experience happening in a theater with a group of people making the decisions. Now that this project has been announced, we'll hopefully hear more details soon.
