John “Totalbiscuit” Bain Retiring as a Critic

Gaming critic John “Totalbiscuit” Bain announced today that he is retiring from his usual fare, due to the advanced state of his cancer. A hospital visit last week resulted in his realizing that he was running out of options, as he noted in a statement, “When I went into hospital a week or so ago, it was accompanied by the news that conventional chemotherapy’s effectiveness had been exhausted.”

This comes as an evolution of Bain’s continuing battles with cancer. In 2014, it started with a bowel cancer diagnosis. This went into remission, but returned last year when it spread to his liver and spine. Doctors have told him now that his liver is failing, and that all chemotherapy options have been tried and found ineffective.

Bain tried to instill in his fans the idea that they should not speculate as to exactly how long he has left to live. He said that he understood that thinking disturbs some of his viewers, and he does not wish for that. From this point onward, Bain will continue to make YouTube videos and stream on Twitch, but instead of critics, they will feature co-op gaming sessions with his wife Genna Bain.

Bain hopes that his wife will take over all of his channels after his death, including the Co-optional Podcast. He is currently 33 years old.
