Resident Evil 7 Coming to Switch via Cloud Streaming

Resident Evil 7 Coming to Switch via Cloud Streaming

Resident Evil 7 is coming to Switch, but in a way you might not have expected. Instead of trying to optimize the game for the handheld hybrid console, Capcom is opting to use cloud-based streaming technology to bring something resembling the full experience to the palm of our hands. (In Japan for now, anyway.)

Resident Evil 7 Cloud Version , as it’s called, costs around the equivalent of $20 and only takes up about 45MB on your Switch. This is a streaming title, so a steady and powerful Internet connection will be necessary. Wi-Fi may not cut it, but there are USB-C to ethernet adapters out there that are great pickups for online Switch needs at home.

This version of the very well-received modern horror classic will drop in Japan on May 24, mere days from now. It’s only been announced for Japan so far, with no mention yet of a Western version. Due to the odd format, it may have been designed specifically with Japan in mind, but we’ll see what happens.
