You may be wondering, as a The Last of Us fan, what the deal with Joel is for The Last of Us Part II. You’re still going to be wondering in a narrative sense, but Naughty Dog did confirm a little tidbit with regards to who the player will actually be controlling.
When speaking to IGN during an E3 meeting, at first, Naughty Dog’s Richard Cambier wasn’t ready to discuss the matter at all. But then, Neil Druckmann chimed in to say, “Ellie is the only playable character in the game.”
So there you have it. Regardless of what happens, Druckmann somewhat candidly confirmed that there is one playable character in The Last of Us 2, and Ellie is the star of the show. In the first game, Joel was the primary playable character, but there was a section of the game in which players got to control Ellie.
Obviously, we’ll find out more as the release date approaches, but for now we rely on the word of the dev’s representation, in true pre-release hype fashion.
