Nintendo Arcade Classics Hit Consoles for the First Time

Nintendo Arcade Classics Hit Consoles for the First Time

Two new games have joined the Arcade Archive line on Nintendo Switch, and both of them are historically significant releases. The two games are Donkey Kong and Sky Skipper . The first game speaks for itself and is immediately available, and Sky Skipper has an intriguing story that shows how important Hamster Corps’ work is and arrives in July 2018.

Donkey Kong is a game we all know and love, and it has seen plenty of re-releases over time. But this is the first time a true arcade port has hit consoles. Not only does this release include the original international release, but it also contains the original Japanese version and a second Japanese version that fixed bugs. It’s a true, comprehensive and historical release.

The second game, Sky Skipper , is also a Nintendo arcade release, and one that came out the same year as Donkey Kong . However, Sky Skipper never officially left Japan. The game was prepared for North American release, but ultimately never shipped. In fact, the only known original Sky Skipper cabinet resides at Nintendo, in the company’s physical archive. The board for that cabinet was used by Hamster and Nintendo to make this new port.

Again, Donkey Kong is available now for $7.99, and Sky Skipper will launch in July.
