DRM Messes with Some Copies of LA Noire VR

Stop me if you’ve heard this one. A consumer buys a game. That game has DRM on it, which is meant to prevent piracy. Something goes wrong. That DRM makes it impossible for the consumer to play the game anymore. This happened with the Mac version of Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance and it is happening again with the VR version of LA Noire. While the situations are slightly different, the effects are the same: gamers can’t access the games they paid for.

According to Reddit, the issue arose when a player set out to play LA Noire VR . At some point down the road, the game started to ask for an activation key even though the poster claims to have already purchased the title on Steam. The Steam community for the game shows that even more users are suffering from the problem. No solution has yet been offered.

Issues like this aren’t entirely unprecedented with Rockstar games on the PC and it isn’t clear what action will be taken. If Rockstar refuses to help gamers, perhaps Steam will allow refunds.
