Epic Passes Fortnite Profits on to Content Creators

Epic Passes Fortnite Profits on to Content Creators

It shouldn’t be any surprise that Fortnite is making a lot of money. It is an incredibly popular game that people are talking about, rappers are rapping about, and at least a couple times a week, I am writing about. What is surprising to me is that Epic is using Fortnite ’s success to give a raise, of sorts, to some of its content creators.

Epic has something called the Unreal Engine Marketplace, where people can create assets for games for game makers to buy. For a while, 30% of the purchase price of an item went into Epic’s pockets, but now it seems that the will be cutting back to only taking 12%. What’s more, this policy is being applied retroactively. It’s wonderful to see.

Fortnite brought in $318 million for Epic in May, so the company is far from hurting. Treating its content creators well means those content creators have more time to work on content. Epic also puts a lot of money back into Fortnite, in the form of development and tournament prize pools. It’s clear that this game is a very big deal for them going forward.
