Overwatch Support Characters Are Being Reworked

Overwatch Support Characters Are Being Reworked

Balancing competitive games is a constant tug-of-war, and it seems that, no matter what happens, it is impossible to make everyone happy. But the idea is to make the game fair, because fair keeps the game interesting. The next Overwatch series of balance changes is set to target most of the Support characters.

For the most part, these characters will become much stronger. Ana’s Ultimate is being reworked to function as “a clutch save on a dying teammate,” according to Lead Designer, Geoff Goodman. This is because it will instantly restore 300 HP to the target, while applying attack and defense buffs. Brigitte, the tank and healer hybrid, will see her Shield Bash cooldown reduced by a second. Moira, who uses resources to heal, will see those resources replenish 20% faster. Lucio’s Sound Barrier will provide 750 shield power and his Crossfade radius will increase to 12 meters.

Mercy, however, is receiving a debuff to her healing power. Don’t get too upset though, as she will remain the most potent healer in the game. Her usual rate of healing 60 HP a second will be reduced by 10 to 50 HP/s.

Complaints are expected, I’m sure. But the idea of bridging the gap between the Support heroes means that players will better be able to optimize their team for different situations, instead of always abiding by an optimal metagame.
