Despite being announced not long before its planned release date, Saber Interactive mysteriously delayed NBA Playgrounds 2 , seemingly indefinitely. Now, we know why. It seems the developer managed to nail a publishing deal with NBA 2K publisher 2K Games. As a result, the 2K branding has been added to the game, making the full title NBA 2K Playgrounds 2 .
NBA 2K Playgrounds 2 will be launching in Fall 2018 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC. It’s ostensibly the same game as before and is still being developed by Saber Interactive. The partnership is designed to ‘further expand 2K’s footprint in the basketball video game space.”
The original NBA Playgrounds was received quite well, despite some noted issues and an unfortunate series of events for the Nintendo Switch version that were eventually addressed with a relaunch. NBA 2K Playgrounds 2 looks to be a similar, NBA Jam -inspired experience on a larger scale.
