PlayStation Hosting Girl’s Summer Game Development Camp

PlayStation Hosting Girl’s Summer Game Development Camp

A local CBS affiliate in San Mateo, California has reported that PlayStation is hosting a summer camp specifically aimed to introduce young women to the world of game development. The camp is being held at the PlayStation offices in San Mateo and is an offshoot of sorts of the Girls Make Games program out of San Jose. The goal of the camp is to encourage girls to join the games industry, a field that is often dominated by males both literally and culturally.

Girls Make Games was founded roughly four years ago by Laila Shabir, after running into difficulties recruiting women for her own educational game development studio. Girls Make Games is not only about getting women into a field in which numbers are low, but also about helping like-minded young women find each other. It’s about encouragement as much as it is about education and work training.

The article doesn’t contain much information about the PlayStation’s camp, but it’s great to see such a huge force in the industry participating, to the point of running its own program within its offices.
