Nintendo Switch Sales Nearly Breach 20 Million

Nintendo Switch Sales Nearly Breach 20 Million

As has been spoken of before in previous investor calls and the like, Nintendo’s goal is to hit 20 million Nintendo Switch sales by the end of the fiscal year. Well, that’s almost certainly going to happen. Nintendo has released its sales information for the first 2018 fiscal quarter, and the Nintendo Switch is sitting at 19.67 million units sold to date, with 1.88 million sold in the first quarter.

Software sales are also part of the release, specifically for Nintendo’s first party output on the system up to that point. Games like Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker aren’t on the list. Going up through Mario Tennis Aces , each first party Nintendo title has sold over one million units, with Xenoblade Chronicles 2 , Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freese and Mario Tennis Aces just under 1.5 million, and Kirby: Star Allies just under two million. Super Mario Odyssey is the best-selling game of the set, sitting at 11.17 million sales through the conclusion of the first quarter.

The Reddit post compiling this data also has some points of comparison to put this data in perspective. In 16 months, the PS4 sold 20.2 million, across two holiday seasons. Switch has sold this 19.67 milliion in about 15 months, with only one holiday season in that time. Additionally, Q1 and Q2 sales are generally weak for console makers, with Q3 often making up 50% or more of Nintendo’s sales. So that 20 million goal is, well, inevitable.
