The title of the latest Call of Duty game has slipped out, and it is surprisingly familiar. Apparently, the next game will be called Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. This comes after many, many rumors that the next installment for 2019 would be Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4. Now, all we have to do is wait for an official announcement and reveal to see how true this may or may not be.
Initially, the rumor came from a YouTuber who goes by LongSensation. Shock was expressed at the name. Then, Kotaku’s Jason Schreier came in to confirm the alleged name. In his comment, he reminded people Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare was the name of the first entry in that line of games.
If this is true, it could make things very confusing. The original Call of Duty: Modern Warfare line title was Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. Its remake is Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered. Its sequels tacked on numbers to the end, becoming Modern Warfare 2 and 3. Which means that this could be an entirely new game that just drops numbers completely or something else entirely.
Answers should arrive soon enough. E3 2019 is on the way. Also, Activision tends to reveal its Call of Duty for the year in the summer, so it can build up hype for the eventual launch in October or November. Hopefully, things will be a little more clear and less confusing when that happens.
