Pokemon Sword & Shield Will Have Open World Elements

Pokemon Sword & Shield Will Have Open World Elements

Nintendo’s Pokemon Direct has come and gone, and tons of details about the upcoming JRPG has been revealed. To start, Nintendo Switch owners will get to play Pokemon Sword and Shield on November 15, 2019. It will be available worldwide, and people will be able to buy a version alone or get both together in a double pack.

In Pokemon Sword and Shield, there will be some open-world elements. People will find Wild Areas between towns. These can be freely explored, rather than previous installments’ routes that kept people more or less on a road. People can move the camera to see things from different perspectives. You also will be able to see Pokemon wandering in the fields, to help you better decide what to catch. Some of the new Pokemon you might see there are the lizard-like Drednaw, the flowery Gossifleur (and its evolution, Eldegoss), the crow-like Corviknight, and the Wooloo sheep.

Some new mechanics were revealed too. A new Dynamax ability has been revealed. When triggered, a Pokemon will become much larger (and stronger) for three turns. This can only happen once during a battle. This move is also connected to Raids, which first appeared in Pokemon Go. People in a Wild Area will be able to connect with up to four others to take on a wild Dynamax Pokemon. In these fights, the enemy Pokemon will remain in that form throughout the fight.

The two new legendary Pokemon were also revealed. They are Zacian and Zamazenta. The former looks like a wolf carrying a sword, and it is connected to Pokemon Sword . The latter has a mane that looks like a shield, and it is found in Pokemon Shield .

Pokemon Sword and Shield will come to the Switch worldwide on November 15, 2019.
