Free Discord Nitro Games Are Going Away

Free Discord Nitro Games Are Going Away

While Discord is a free service, there are other options for people who really like all it offers. People can subscribe to Discord Nitro for $9.99 per month or $99.99 per year to get perks like different screenshare options, the ability to change your discriminator, and larger upload size limits. But, one of its biggest selling point perks is going away. Access to its free Nitro Games library will be cut off on October 15, 2019.

When Discord launched Discord Nitro Classic and Discord Nitro, the extra $5 people paid per month would get them access to around 100 Nitro Games on the Discord game storefront. After October 15, 2019, subscribers lose access to them, but all of the Nitro Game Perks and purchased games will not be affected.

Fortunately, Discord acknowledged that this might mean people are losing something they signed up for. So, it has announced it will be issuing refunds. People who got into Discord Nitro because of the free Nitro Games can go ahead and contact support at its official page . They can then get their money back.

The reason for the removal is that apparently, Discord Nitro subscribers weren’t playing these free games. The official page noted, “Through your valuable feedback, it became clear that while we and some of you love these games, the truth is the vast majority of Nitro subscribers didn’t play them.” It also said that it is workshopping this plan to help provide new benefits as an alternative. Among the new additions include Go Live direct streaming to friends and a Server Boost. Also, to soften the blow of losing free games, it immediately rolled out a 100mb upload size for Discord Nitro members and made it so you only need 20 boosts to reach Level 3.
