PS5 Price and Release Date, Final Fantasy XVI Announced

PS5 Price and Release Date, Final Fantasy XVI Announced

PlayStation 5 Pricing and Release Date Announced

Unless you’re caught up in things like “console wars,” days like this can be so exciting for gaming enthusiasts. After much speculation, and a lot of anticipation, we finally know the launch date and price of Sony’s upcoming consoles, the PlayStation 5 and the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition.

They will both be released on November 12 th , two days after the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, which means retail employees are set to have a very nasty two days. The PlayStation 5 will be available for $499, while the Digital Edition will be available for $399. As a point of comparison, the Series X will go for $499 as well, but its digital version will only cost $299. They’re not cheap consoles by any means, with the PlayStation 5 being priced at about 100 dollars more than the original price point for the PS4. Still better than the early versions of the PS3, though.

What might help mitigate the cost of the system is the fact that the console will support a majority of PlayStation 4 games. Some PlayStation 4 games will also be enhanced for the new console. It also seems as though we are getting a pretty substantial upgrade from the last generation, so trading in an old console might very well be worth your while.

Final Fantasy XVI Announced for PlayStation 5

I don’t know how many people were expecting it but the reveal for Final Fantasy XVI at Sony’s PlayStation 5 showcase certainly caught me off guard. The trailer for the game, called the Awakening Trailer, doesn’t reveal all that much but does hint at a few things.

The trailer depicts some familiar Final Fantasy elements. Crystals, summons, chocobos, militaries, and, I think, kingdoms. While all those things are present in the mostly lighthearted title, Final Fantasy IX , this game seems to have a much darker feel to it, assuming the trailer is a good indication of what we can expect. We do, after all, see somebody get crushed by a very large rock. Oh, and a kid’s face is covered in blood after he witnesses somebody get struck down by a sword. A lot of the characters in the trailer also seem grim, brooding, or dour. The combat looks to be of the Action RPG variety and appears very similar to what we saw in Final Fantasy XV.

The game has a great pedigree to it, even beyond the fact that Square Enix has been making Final Fantasy games for decades. Naoki Yoshida, the man who saved the now popular MMO Final Fantasy XIV from a horrible fate, is producing it. The trailer also seems consistent with the kind of story we saw told throughout Final Fantasy XIV . Hiroshi Takai, who has been with the company for a long time and worked on titles like Final Fantasy V and the other MMO, Final Fantasy XI , is also on the team. They have the trust of a lot of fans, so it will be interesting to see what happens with this title, after seeing fans complain about a lot of the more recent titles in the series. There is currently no known release date for the game but Naoki Yoshida has stated that the next big reveal will be in 2021.

Devil May Cry 5 Special Edition Announced for PS5 Launch

The PlayStation 5 might not be getting as many launch titles as some might have hoped, but the exclusives it is getting seem like an absolute blast. While I can’t actually speak to the quality of any of them, having not played them, I can say with relative confidence that the newly announced Devil may Cry 5 Special Edition will be a great title simply because the original was.

The game is a continuation of the stories of Dante, Nero, and Vergil but also tells the tales of some pretty compelling newcomers. The Special Edition will be enhanced for the PlayStation 5 and will have additional content beyond what was contained in regular Devil May Cry 5 . The big step up from the PlayStation 4 means that the game could end up looking absolutely stunning, giving its new ray tracing ability. Pictures comparing the two games certainly give credence to this idea, anyway.

In terms of content, the game will have “Turbo Mode,” which increases the speed of gameplay to 1.2x its normal speed. A “Legendary Dark Knight” difficulty will multiply the amount of enemies in the game’s encounters to chaotic levels, which is only made possible by the new hardware. Finally, Vergil, Dante’s brother and a fan favorite, will be made playable in the special edition. Gamers who aren’t upgrading but still own the original game will be able to access him through DLC on the PlayStation 4.

The game will be available for $39.99 for the PlayStation 5 on launch day.
