Starfield Engine Rewritten for Next-Gen

Larry Hryb, Microsoft’s Director of Programming for its Xbox Live service, recently sat down for an interview with Todd Howard and Pete Hines of Bethesda. While much of the interview was about Microsoft’s recent acquisition of Bethesda’s parent company, ZeniMax Media, Larry Hryb did manage to get in a question about Bethesda’s upcoming RPG, Starfield. While not much information was given, Todd Howard did mention that the game has a “major engine rewrite,” in order to make use of next-gen capabilities.

Howard then acknowledged the lack of information about Starfield, which has been in development for quite a while. “The people all know me, I like to wait as long as possible to show stuff so uh, we’re closer to show stuff than we were at the beginning of the conversation,” he said.

The engine was also talked about back in 2018 Bethesda said that the Creation Engine, Bethesda’s proprietary game development tool, would be used for Starfield, Elder Scrolls 6, and other next-gen titles. It isn’t clear how much the engine has grown since then, but it will be interesting to see just how well it interacts with the next-gen hardware.

Disney Postpones Black Widow Among Other Films

If you were hoping to stream Black Widow this fall, it is looking like you are goin to be disappointed. In fact, a lot of upcoming movies have received all new release dates.

Black Widow is currently planned for release on May 7, 2021, whereas its original launch date was May 1, 2020. Then November 6th. This is likely a result of the COVID-19 pandemic which has heavily affected both the film and video game industries.

It gets worse for Marvel fans, too. Eternals has been pushed from February of next year to November. It is said that the Marvel Phase 4 timeline won’t change as a result of this rescheduling. On the other side of the token, WandaVision, a Marvel show set to stream on Disney+, has been moved up to release in December of this year.

According to the game’s official site, players can expect “a stranger, richer and more varied universe, with deeper planetary diversity, dramatic new terrain, a host of new creatures, new weather conditions, colossal buildings, and much more.”

Some other features of the update include systems with multiple stars which create stunning visual effects. The new landscape styles are also breathtaking so the exploration-centric game will likely feel all the more awe inspiring.
