Judge Orders Ecko’s Graffiti Party to Take Place

None

We reported earlier that Marc Ecko’s graffiti block party was called off by NYC’s mayor Michael Bloomberg after he learned the party would include spraying graffiti on replica subway cars. Ecko decided to take the case to court and was rewarded by Judge Jed Rakoff ordering the city to allow the party to go on.

He stated that the denial was a “flagrant violation” of First Amendment rights. He compared Bloomberg’s refusal to saying “a street performance of ‘Hamlet’ would be tantamount to encouraging revenge murder”.

The party will take place on Wednesday in New York’s Chelsea district.
