Xbox 360: No Hard Drive, No Backwards Compatibility?

Xbox 360: No Hard Drive, No Backwards Compatibility?

None

Microsoft has already announced that the Xbox 360 will only be partially backwards compatible (see our previous coverage ). Since the Xbox and the Xbox 360 do not use the same chipsets, the games must be emulated onto the 360 for gamers to play. Some believe that the hard drive will be necessary for the backwards compatibility in order for an emulator to work (no confirmation yet if an emulator is shipped with the 360 hard drive).

Yet, it seems that Microsoft is encouraging developers to make their current Xbox titles backwards compatible with or without the hard drive, but this type of compatibility may only be for top-selling games.
