WoW Used by Scientists

None

Yesterday, “All Things Considered”, a program on NPR, reported that World of Warcraft may help scientists. Recently, a plague hit the game and turned the world into a disaster where everyone who came in contact with the plague immediately died (unless they were of a certain status).

Scientists who discovered this plague felt that the gamers’ reactions to the disaster were very realistic. Some players began infecting as many other players as possible with the disease and some were trying to rescue others. One players was even crying for help from those in charge (in this case, the game’s creators).

Many of us can think onto the recent Hurricane Katrina disaster and see how these reactions are very similar to the reactions of those affected by the hurricane. Blizzard is not opposed to experimenting with the scientist’s concept in the future.
