Video Game Industry Fights Schwarzenegger’s Law

Video Game Industry Fights Schwarzenegger’s Law

None

Doug Lowenstein, President of the Entertainment Software Association (ESA) has announced that the video game industry “intends to file a lawsuit to strike [California’s video game law] down and we are confident that we will prevail.”

Arnold Schwarzenegger signed a California law into effect that would make the sale of violent video games to minors illegal. The video game industry is striking back. Federal courts have ruled against similar legislation in the city of Indianapolis in Indiana, the county of St. Louis in Missouri, and the state of Washington. All courts have found that the laws violated the U.S. Constitution’s guarantee of free speech. Many people predict that a similar ruling will be found in California. Similar suits are under way in Illinois and Michigan.
