Video Game Industry Sues Against New California Law

Video Game Industry Sues Against New California Law

None

As we suspected, the Video Software Dealers Association and Entertainment Software Association has filed a lawsuit against the recently passed California law that bans the sale or rental of violent video games to minors (see previous coverage for details).

The group argues that the new law violates First Amendment free speech rights and is, therefore, unconstitutional.

“I believe strongly that we must give parents the tools to help them protect their children,” Schwarzenegger defended. “I will do everything in my power to preserve this new law and I urge the attorney general to mount a vigorous defense of California’s ability to prevent the sale of these games to children.”

We will keep you posted as this lawsuit proceeds.
