Xbox 360 and PS3 Backwards Compatibility Problems

Xbox 360 and PS3 Backwards Compatibility Problems

None

As predicted, Sony has recently made comments that the PlayStation 3 will not be 100% backwards compatible.

“It’s hard to say the PlayStation 3 will be 100 % backwards compatible. But as we said earlier this year, we aim to make it so as much as possible,” Reiko Sakamoto, a spokesperson for Sony, stated to IDG News.

This comment was made after questions were raised when a list of games that would not be compatible with the new silver slimline PS2 console. Thirty-eight PS1 games and nine PS2 games including Tekken 5, Hitman: Contracts, and Resident Evil were included in the list.

Sakamoto explained that the new console has a different chipset that is not compatible with the way some software is programmed leading to glitches and slow game saves.

Similar concerns have been raised about the Xbox 360 being compatible with Xbox games. A list of compatible games is set to appear on the official Xbox website in the next two weeks.

“You have all heard this before I’m sure, but we are working on a software emulation that we have built that is hand to hand combat game by game by game. Each game is emulated and you know the issue with the GPU and the CPU. We will probably be in a position in about two weeks to give you a list and that list will go up on Xbox.com and it will get updated as more and more games get through certification,” Peter Moore, Xbox Vice President, explained

We will keep you posted at Cheat Code Central as we discover more in the next-gen console war.
